Every day, 320 children under age five are lost to preventable and treatable diseases, such as malaria, respiratory infections and diarrhea.

Interventions made by Kubatsirana since 1995 and over the years have brought about remarkable changes in the quality of life of the target audience including but not limited to:

 

  • Expansion of programs to 4 other districts has resulted into an increased number of beneficiaries.
  • The organization is integrated with the National Health Service system on HBC in all districts indicating a strong partnership with government.
  • The organization has been included as a member of technical team for the review and approval of funding from the National AIDS Council which reflect confidence and credibility with the government.
  • During period 2006-2007 there were 40 houses built for Orphans and Vulnerable Children thus providing shelter to the most vulnerable population.
  • Africare through Habitat for Humanity has sub-contracted Kubatsirana to build houses for OVCs on an on-going basis indicating strong collaboration with other partners. ( #57 house 2008)
  • 3,793 Orphans and vulnerable children have benefited by enrolling into schools, enjoying civic rights, succession plan and assistance to their right to inheritance.
  • Four Open centers with 662 children (364M & 298F) integrated within the community are benefiting.
  • Eight additional open centers are in the process of being established in Chimoio district in order to reach out to many more vulnerable children.
  • 10,850 youths have enrolled under the ABY (Abstinence Be faithful for Youth) program and two clubs (Café de Rapariga=Girl Cafe and Young Couples Club) provide venues and opportunities for youths to interact and develop as role models. Some of the beneficiaries are now productive citizens, with technical skills and happily married.
  • The organization established two Community Based Organizations (Luz na comunidade-1 district and Kuphedzana- 4 districts) in Sofala province as part of the expansion program.
  • The organization now proudly owns its own premise which is a milestone in terms of sustainability.
  • 90 hectares farm have been acquired for the benefit of its members which, not only is part of the sustainability strategy, but also forms part of community ownership.
  • The 77 member churches have been systematically sensitized on stigma and discrimination and awareness on other HIV and AIDS related issues as a capacity building measure.
  • There is now a paid staff compliment of 52 reflecting the growth of the organization.
  • There are 735 volunteers (231M & 504F) that show strength in community mobilization and Christian values.
  • There are over 17,680 patients visited annually which is an indicator of how strong the home based care operates.
  • The 710 PLWHA through Shingirirai are inclusive of all 5 districts where 1,160 to date, receive ARV treatment and engaging in various income generating projects such as tie and dye (batik), badge making, pottery, sewing, mats, horticulture, and processing natural medicine.
  • Some households are fostering children and are role models providing a positive influence on moral responsibility.
  •  In Sussundenga district orphan children are engaged in a poultry project of free range chicken for life skills, sustenance and nutritional well being.
  •  In Gondola district there is a fish farming project also for life skills, sustenance and nutritional well being.
  •  Horticulture gardens for life skills, sustenance and nutritional well being are also operational.

LANDMARK DEVELOPMENTS

·        One of the greatest milestones of Kubatsirana is having secured land and constructed its own magnificent offices with the generous assistance from NORAD.  In addition to this Kubatsirana owns a 90 hectares farm and Shingirirai (PLWHA) is in the process of securing land for its own premises and a farm. These farms are intended to provide a food basket for the beneficiaries, generate income for sustainability and act as training facilities in agriculture.
